On 28 June 2023, the ACT Government signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Australian Sports Commission to ensure the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) precinct continues to be central to Australia’s sporting success.
The MOU will enable the Australian Sports Commission and the ACT Government to actively engage in discussions and explore mutually beneficial opportunities within the AIS precinct.
Through the MOU both parties will:
- Encourage activation of the AIS precinct as a vibrant sport-related precinct.
- Maintain and enhance the AIS precinct as a centre of world class facilities for high performance athletes.
- Continue the co-location of the ACT Academy of Sport within the AIS precinct.
- Maintain and engage the AIS precinct as a centre for innovation in sport, sport science and sport business.
- Encourage opportunities for community access to facilities at the AIS precinct.
- Investigate options for the activation of the AIS Arena.
- Investigate options for the redevelopment or replacement of Canberra Stadium within the AIS precinct.
The MOU will expire on 31 December 2024.
