State Sporting Organisation Categorisation

The Sport and Recreation Investment Scheme (SRIS) aims to partner with sport and active recreation providers in the ACT to invest in projects that align with CBR Next Move, and support the Government’s vision for all Canberrans moving more through sport and active recreation. It offers four targeted programs designed to support State Sport Organisations and State Active Recreation Organisations (SSOs), as well as clubs, across varying levels of organisational capacity.

In order for State Sporting Organisations (SSOs) and State Active Recreation Organisations to be eligible for Industry Partnership Program funding or State Organisation Support Program funding, they must first undertake a SSO Categorisation application process to be categorised as either a Category 1, 2 or 3 SSO.

The SSO Categorisation process is designed to be formally undertaken by SSOs every three (3) years.

Is it compulsory for SSOs to apply for SSO Categorisation?

No, it is not compulsory to apply. SSOs are only required to be categorised if they wish to be considered for the Industry Partnership Program or State Organisation Support Program.

Does applying for SSO Categorisation guarantee funding support for my organisation?

No, participation in the process and recognition within a Category at any level is not a guarantee of funding. The provision of any funding (IPP or SOSP) will be solely determined by assessment of applications to the respective program at the appropriate time.

Does an SSO require categorisation to apply for the Club Enhancement Program (CEP) or Community Sport Facilities Program (CSFP) funding?

No, all SSOs whether they are categorised or not can apply for the CEP and/or CSFP provided they meet the funding criteria of that program.
